B.Sc. Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology

B.Sc. Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology

The B.Sc. in Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology is a 3-year undergraduate program designed to train students in the specialized field of cardiac and pulmonary perfusion, which involves the use of machines to support or temporarily replace the function of the heart and lungs during medical procedures such as open-heart surgery. This course focuses on the use of heart-lung machines, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and other life-supporting technologies.

The curriculum covers subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, cardiology, pulmonary function, perfusion techniques, equipment management, and patient monitoring. Students are also trained in sterile techniques, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and patient care in critical care settings. Practical training is a crucial component of the program, with students gaining hands-on experience in operating heart-lung machines and assisting in cardiac surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and valve replacement surgeries.

Graduates can work as cardiac perfusionists in hospitals, particularly in cardiac surgery units, intensive care units (ICUs), and specialized heart-lung centers. They may also find opportunities in research, medical equipment companies, and education. Professionals in this field play a vital role in supporting patients during complex surgeries and ensuring the effective functioning of the heart and lungs during critical medical procedures.
